So much L I F E here! It’s a beautiful place to take a nature walk, have a picnic, observe butterflies, dragonflies, birds. Great nature oasis in the middle of the valley in the city. I have been several times in a month or so because I love it so much. There’s multiple zones and tons of parking lots on one big property. These are photos of the lake area but theres big open fields and the amphitheater as well as the Japanese gardens too and so on. ✨

Beautiful trail. Very peaceful, no people, easy peasy, and no trash anywhere.

This wildlife reserve is an incredible escape from the hustle bustle of the valley! The are a few signs posted that give you information about the reserve and the wildlife in it, but I'm glad that this is free and open to the public. During the spring everything is green and beautiful, so definitely try to visit between March and June. I'm sure in the summer everything will dry up but hoping the wildlife remains! Great place to come with family and friends for a walk, run, or even to ride bikes!

This wildlife reserve is a beautiful place to come and relax in the valley. There is a peaceful lake/ pond with tons of water fowl flying and swimming around perfect for birding. Seems to be fish in the pond as well but no fishing is allowed.

There is a path around the lake that runs around the park and near the other recreational areas including archery and cookout areas. You can stop at points on the path to read about the reserve and how and y it was created. Which is actually interesting.

Most of the reserve is underwater during periods of its existence and they have stones to mark the maximum heights that the water gets to. It’s pretty cool to think about that whole area underwater.

As with many places there are a fair amount of homeless people floating around but we’re friendly to me and pointed me in the direction of the nearby model airplane and drone field nearby once he saw my drone.

Perfect for a hikeout option. Although, it is little bit scary because of the large bushes around the reserve there is a trail for walking around. Plus there is a park nearby for family outings and picnics. No entry fees so would definitely recommend checking out once?

It could be a very nice place if the rules were followed. Now, under the No fishing signs, 10 people from Latin America are sitting here and fishing. There is a lot of garbage, no one cleans up after noisy parties. I am sure that such parties are not good for wildlife. They don't clean up after the dogs, even on the cricket fields there are piles of poop. Cars drive calmly through the clearings, although the roads are blocked - they simply drive around the blocked entrances nearby. Why doesn't anyone keep order?

Right next to Balboa Lake Park, feels more natural and is less packed. Great place if you're looking for a place to relax.

I like the lake. Lots of turtles and shady behavior in the bushes make the people fishing illegally today's Tom Sawyer and boy is it a hoot to blow clouds of OG Kush like a valley hobbit.
